Be A Number, International

Be A Number, International is a nonprofit dedicated to rehabilitation and vocational training, grounded in principles of community and sustainability.

We Operate two training centers in Uganda, Africa where we empower 40 women and their children through our programs.

Through a strategic partnership with a Community Based Organization, we ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of our initiatives.

Who:

Our primary focus lies with women and mothers in Uganda, Africa, who face significant barriers to employment due to their past experiences, including armed conflict, early pregnancies, physical abuse, or abandonment.

What:

We provide vocational training, specializing in sewing, to empower these women. They travel long distances, often on foot, to attend our centers and learn from local tailors.

Why:

At the core of our mission is a belief in the transformative power of love. We are driven by the conviction that by empowering mothers, we uplift entire families. Every individual deserves the opportunity to embrace self-sustainability and provide for their loved ones. Our work is fueled by a deep-seated desire to nurture willingness and curiosity, to ignite passion and resilience, and to infuse every life with the unwavering belief that dreams are worth pursuing.

How:

Our program comprises three phases - Rehabilitation, Training, and Production.

We offer group trauma training upon their arrival. In Training Phase I, they learn sewing basics on manual machines under the guidance of local experts. Progressing to Training Phase II, they advance to electric machines, often powered by solar panels. Once proficient, they enter the Production phase, supported by our Community Partner who secures contracts, such as school uniform production.

Goal:

Sustainability and Global Impact. Our projects are considered successful when they no longer rely on external donations to survive. The goal is for these cooperatives to sustain themselves. As we work towards sustainability, we plan to expand our model beyond Uganda into other East African countries. We are actively working to bring this model to the USA, where we aim to serve immigrants and individuals facing barriers to employment. We hope to empower even more communities worldwide.
